Lancers Defense Holds off Condors

By Alex Gonzalez

(Bell Gardens) — The Bell Gardens defense forced four turnovers and running back Noah Quintero rushed for two touchdowns in the Lancers’ 20-13 victory over California Friday night at Bell Gardens High School.

The Lancers’ offense took little time to make their way down the field. Quarterback Jordan Cardenas connected with wide out Isaiah Remigio for 57-yards putting his team deep into Cal’s redzone. From there, Quintero jumped over his line to put his team up six with 9:08 left in the first quarter. The team failed to convert the 2-point conversion.
Following a Cal fumble, Quintero carried the ball 30-yards to pay dirt. However, they missed the point after attempt. Bell Gardens led 12-0 late in the first quarter.
The Condors finally answered back with a rushing touchdown of their own when Robert Leos rumbled his way 48-yards for the score.
At the end of the half, Bell Gardens was up 12-6.
Following intermission, the Condors started the second half with a 78-yard touchdown run by Leos. Following the point after, Cal lead 13-12. The Condors defense also shut out BG in the third quarter.
Bell Gardens tried to add points throughout the quarter but Cardenas was picked off twice deep into Condor territory.
With 5:10 left to play in the fourth and no time outs, Cardenas connected with Remigio once again for 56-yards for the touchdown taking the lead 18-13. With a converted 2-point conversion and no timeouts left for a Cal comeback, the Lancers held on 20-13 .
