Tartans Topple Alta Loma in Opener

(Glendora)- The Tartans opened their season with rousing success Friday night. They used a strong third quarter to go up by 17 before eventually settling for a 24-14 win over Alta Loma at Citrus College.

The first quarter was a bit of defensive struggle that ended with the Tartans up 3-0. The Braves took the lead with 5:11 left in the second behind 1 yard run by Javier Cruz. Tartans answered right back when Matt Fink connected with Corey Taylor for 43 yard strike to go into the half up 10-7.

The Tartans gained control in the third scoring 14 points to go up 24-7. Alta Loma tried desperately to mount a rally in the fourth. The Braves scored with 4:51 left to cut the led to ten, 24-14. On the ensuing possession the Tartans turned the ball over when Matt Fink was intercepted at the Braves 16 yard line. The Braves returned the favor when James Josiah Jr.’s pass was picked off. The Tartans ran out the clock to win by a final of 24-14.

  • Andrew Montano had a solid game for Glendora running the ball 13 times for 132 yds. and 1 TD
  • Alta Loma’s Josiah Jr. was 11/20 for 138 yds., 1TD, 1 INT
  • Christian Palmer was the leading rusher for Alta Loma with 39 yds. on 8 carries.
  • Alta Loma has a short week and will meet Fontana Thursday 9/10 @ Chaffey High School
  • Glendora travels to San Bernardino to face San Gorgonio next Friday 9/11
