1. New York Yankee pitcher C.C. Sabathia checks into an alcohol rehab center and will miss the post season.

2. Kenny Bul, a football player at Seattle’s Evergreen High who was injured during a game last week, has died, the Highline Public Schools said.

4. The Washington Nationals fire manager Matt Williams.

5. The Miami Dolphins fire HC Joe Philbin after a 1-3 start. Philbin went 24-28 in three plus seasons. Tight ends coach Dan Campbell is named interim coach.

10. Happy Birthday to Heisman Trophy winner and current Oakland Raiders free safety Charles Woodson who turns 39 today. Woodson, who won the Heisman at Michigan in 1997, is the last player to win the award who wasn’t a running back or quarterback.
