Claremont is the Last Man Standing

The Bearcats and Wolfpack met in a battle of unbeatens in the Palomares league. In what figured to be a great match up on paper, the game lived up to expectations. With momentum changing each possession throughout the game, you could sense that the team who had the ball last would win. This feeling became a reality when Claremont QB Pohaku Kaheaku-Paiva hauled in a 20 yard pass with 0:58 left in the 4th to seal the win for the Wolfpack 33-29.

  • ·         The Wolfpack led 7-3 at the end of the first behind a two yard run by Kaheaku-Paiva.
  • ·         Bonita responded when Tanner Eest connected with Cameron Liscano on a 25 yard screen up the middle to take the lead 10-7.
  • The Wolfpack surged back with a great defensive stand, pushing the Bearcats back from their own five to cause a safety. After a 25 yard field goal with 0:01 left in the second, the Wolfpack led 12-10 at the half.
  • ·         Bonita came out strong in the third with a passing game that couldn’t be stopped. They were able to move the ball quickly with ease and the Wolfpack “D” had no anwsers. Bonita led 22-19 entering the fourth.
  • ·         The Bearcats defense could not stop the running game of the Wolfpack during the fourth. After exchanging touchdowns to open the quarter, Bonita led 29-26.
  • ·         With a under five minutes to play the Wolfpack went on a 14 play drive capped by the game winning score to win by the final 33-29.
  • ·         Bonita’s Tanner East was 27/34 for 305 yds. and 3 touchdowns.
  • ·         Claremont’s Duy Tran-Sampson carried the ball 43 times for 230 yds. and 1 TD.
  • ·         Claremont’s Pohaku Kaheaku-Paiva was 3/6 for 38 yds. , 1 rushing TD, 1 TD.
  • ·         Claremont is at Ayala next week
  • ·         Bonita is at Glendora next week
