(Arcadia) – Erick Hernandez caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from Steven Hubbell with nine seconds left to give Burroughs a dramatic 39-34 win over Arcadia Friday night on the Apaches home field.

After forcing Arcadia to punt the Indians took over at their own six yard line with 2:32 left. Hubbell marched them down the field twice running out of bounds to stop the clock. He also hit Chance Bell for 14 yards and a 23-yard strike to Robert Awunganyi down to the eight. The 94-yard drive consisted of 13 plays with Hernandez hauling in the game winner.

Burroughs led 27-7 early and was still up 26-17 at the half. Arcadia took the lead at 34-33 on a Justin Mascorro 22-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

Burroughs forced the Apaches to punt the on their next two possessions setting up the final TD drive.

Chance Bell scored twice for Burroughs in the first quarter on runs of two and seven yards. His seven-yard blast in the in the first quarter gave the Indians a 14-7 lead.

Raeshawn Roland scored first for Arcadia taking a swing pass from Nico Hillier and going 62-yards for a 7-0 Arcadia lead.

Down 26-10 Roland scored again in the second quarter to cut the lead to 26-17 at the half.

*** Roland was the go to guy in Arcadia’s offense catching nine passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns. He also picked off a pass.

*** Bell rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries.

*** Hillier threw for 271 yards and three scores for Arcadia.

*** Roland hauled in a 24-yard TD pass from Hillier on Arcadia’s first series to cut the Burroughs lead to 26-24.

*** Burroughs recovered a punt at the one-yard line to set up a one-yard touchdown run by Bell later in the third to make it 33-24.

*** Jalique Stephens answered with a 12-yard run with 2:17 left in the third to cut it to 33-31.

*** Hubbell threw TD strikes to Cade Borland and Nick Mercado in the first quarter to get the Indians out to a three touchdown advantage.

*** Burroughs had a touchdown called back in the third quarter on an illegal man down the field penalty. The Indians also sacked Hillier in the end zone for an apparent safety in the fourth that would have given them a one-point lead but the officials ruled Hillier was down at the one.

*** “We thought our defense was playing pretty well in the fourth quarter. We were able to stop them. And we’re scoring 40 points per game so I was confident we could score at the end,” – said Burroughs Coach Keith Knoop.

*** Burroughs improved to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Pacific while Arcadia fell to 3-1 in league and 4-3 overall.
