(West Covina)- West Covina running back Mike Gomez rushed for 228 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries to lead the Bulldogs to a 21-7 victory over the Chino Cowboys on Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, Gomez lit the scoreboard early in the second with a 58-yard touchdown run. He scored again with twenty seconds left in the half the WC was up 14-0.
The Cowboys first half possession consisted of four three and outs and one turnover on downs. They opened the third quarter with a n 11-play, 67-yard drive that Da’creh West finished with a 1-yard run.
In the fourth quarter Gomez turned the hat trick.
West Covina responded to the Chino score by piecing together a 70 yard, seven minute drive that ended in a missed field goal. The Cowboys took possession at its own 20 and moved to the 39 before a bad snap lost them 22 yards. That loss was followed by a 5-yard penalty for too many men on the field, which was followed by a sack of quarterback Angel Herrera on fourth down.
Taking over at the Chino 10 with 2:05 to play, Bulldogs HC Mike Maggiore used Gomez as the dagger when he scored on a 10-yard run.

***West Covina running backs Kevin Thomas and Prentis Busby contributed 46 and 52 yards respectively.

***Cowboys quarterback Angel Herrera completed four of seven passes for 123 yards.
***Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Mc Corkle completed three of seven passes for 24 yards.

***The Cowboys fell to 1-2 in league, 6-2 overall. They host Diamond Ranch.
***The Bulldogs are now 2-1 in the Hacienda League, 4-4 overall. They go to Los Altos next week.
