Mission Valley League Football 2000-2009

We've used this shot before, but this pic of the Arroyo offensive line following the "Mud Bowl" with Gabrielino in 2004 is one of the defining pics of this past decade.

The Mid Valley was birthed in the Mission Valley, while we intend on examining other leagues from this past decade, its here in the MVL, the league we know best, that we start.

Best Overall Record

Rosemead 73-42-0

Arroyo 66-48-0

So. El Monte 49-58-0

Gabrielino 48-55-3

El Monte 36-65-0

Mt. View 18-80-0

NOTE: The difference in games played is a result of CIF participation. Rosemead played the equivalent of a season and a half extra based on its CIF appearances. Mt. View by not making the playoffs and twice playing only nine-game seasons finished the decade with just 98 games played.

Best MVL Record

Rosemead 40-10-0

Arroyo 40-10-0

So. El Monte 27-23-0

Gabrielino 25-25-0

El Monte 14-36-0

Mt. View 4-46-0

NOTE: The swing teams league wise were Gabrielino and South. Gabrielino was a contender the first half of the decade, the Southmen the final half. Rosemead and Arroyo were constants at the top. El Monte and View…well you get the drift.

Most CIF Wins

Rosemead 5-10

Arroyo 4-10

South El Monte 3-4

Gabrielino 2-5

El Monte 0-1

Mt.View Did Not Qualify

NOTE: Obviously the best winning percentage would go to South, but all that does is punish Arroyo and Rosemead for making it to the big dance every year. Also its unfair to criticize the Knights and Panthers in the post-considering how stacked Division VII was for much of the decade.

Most Points Scored

Rosemead 2,902

Arroyo 2,794

So. El Monte 2,446

Gabrielino 1,837

El Monte 1,478

Mt. View 1,158

NOTE: Distinct advantage here to the teams who consistently made the playoffs.

Fewest Points Allowed

Gabrielino 1,887

Rosemead 2,036

Arroyo 2,194

El Monte 2,460

So. El Monte 2,542

Mt. View 3,110

NOTE: The same holds true here. Gabrielino didn’t play a post-season game after 2004, plus there was a nine-game season included in its totals. The Panthers played nine more games than Gabby and surrendered 149 more points to excellent football teams so that should be taken into consideration. On the other hand, Steve Swanson’s defense at Gabrielino from 2000-2004 was a juggernaut and makes an argument for being among the MVL’s best.

Most Defensive Shutouts

Arroyo 18

Gabrielino 16

So. El Monte 10

Rosemead 9

El Monte 9

Mt. View 2

Fewest Times Shutout

Arroyo 5

Rosemead 5

So. El Monte 8

Gabrielino 13

El Monte 14

Mt. View 24

Most Points Scored in Game

Arroyo 62 (2004)

So. El Monte 61 (2008)

Rosemead 59 (2008)

Gabrielino 56 (2002 & 2004)

Mt. View 53 (2002)

El Monte 49 (2009)

NOTE TO CONSTANT READER: We are currently arguing over all decade teams, not easy… Tomorrow we will publish the MVL’s top 20 games from 2000 thru 2009.
