La Canada and Chaminade to Meet in Semi’s

LA CANADA 46  VS FILLMORE 30

(La Canada, Ca)-  The Lady Spartans stifled Fillmore for three quarters enroute to a 46-30 victory in the final game of Pool A play to advance to the semi-finals of the New Year’s Ball Tournament.

La Canada didn’t allow a field goal in the third quarter and out-scored the Flash 17-2 to cruise into a meeting with Chaminade on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

“We played fantastic defense for three quarters,” said Lady Spartans head coach Tamar Hill.  “The fourth quarter wasn’t the way we wanted to finish.  We can take some positives out of tonight.”

As easy as the first-three quarters were for the Lady Spartans, the fourth quarter was a complete turnaround for Fillmore’s offense.

With the starters on the bench for La Canada, the Flash was able to score at will and went on a 19-2 run to end the game.

The Lady Spartans were led by Tia Chen’s 13 points.  Fillmore was led by Victoria Ayala with eight.

CHAMINADE 66  VS KEPPEL   42

Chaminade over whelmed Keppel for four quarters to advance to the semi-finals of the New Year’s Ball Tournament with a 66-42 win.

The Aztecs were intimidated by the Eagles size and quickness and were shutdown in the first quarter as they would not get a field goal recorded.

By the time Alyson Lock (13 points) made a 10-foot jumper in the second quarter, Keppel was down 25-3 with 6:48 to play in the second quarter.

The Aztecs fought valiantly after a slow start and went on a 10-0 run midway through the second quarter to cut the lead to 13.

The Eagles went on an 8-0 run to finish the half and extended the lead to 21 when Michelle Jackson (17 points) buried a three-pointer from the corner.

Chaminade continued to pressure Keppel in the second half by using a high-intensity defense that continued to wreak havoc.

Never being able to get into rhythm the Aztecs would fall further behind by the time the final buzzer sounded.
