Jerry Gray: We know he can do the job, but can he get the job?

Good Morning!

T-Minus-264 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Legitimate Rams fans will remember Jerry Gray as an all-pro caliber cornerback out of Texas in the 1980’s. Currently he serves as an assistant for the Washington Redskins and was recently interviewed by ownership about the soon to be vacated head coaching position.

(Current HC Jim Zorn, out of Cal Poly Pomona, should be leaving town before Janet Napolitano)

Good for Gray, yes? Or pathetic.

Because the NFL has “The Rooney Rule” teams are required to interview minorities when they have a vacancy.

So Gray gets interviewed because he’s black, and in a few weeks the Redskins will hire Mike Shanahan, whom they’ve wanted to hire all along. Isn’t this just a tad bit insulting?

Pandering? Tokenism? Yes, and yes.

With all of the money involved in the NFL these days, is someone like Daniel Snyder going to hire a white guy, just because he’s white over a better candidate who might be another color of the rainbow?

It’s ridiculous, its a sham…and the NFL should be ashamed…And if I was a black head coaching candidate I would refuse the interview. They all should, because it’s a joke.

Speaking of jokes the NCAA is forcing William & Mary to change the name of the team mascot from “Tribe” to something else…No kidding, one of the nicknames bandying about is “Asparagus”…

Reminds me of the social cowards at Point Loma Nazarene University when the mascot was changed from “Crusaders” to “Sea Lions”…

Will anyone ever find the name “Moors” offensive? Should Alhambra be forced to change its school mascot? The “Moors” were from North Africa, Muslim, and invaded the Iberian Peninsula (Spain) late in the first millennium…They killed a lot of people and touched off a religious war in Europe centuries before the first crusade.

End of the history lesson, but should Alhambra change its mascot?

Of course not. Neither should Arcadia or Burroughs be required to change their mascots (Apaches & Indians)…

Neither should San Gabriel even though we all know what Matadors do to defenseless bulls…Neither should Los Altos even though it celebrates the conquistador culture that was so cruel to Native Americans…And even though we have Saints representing San Dimas…a clear violation of the made up law called “separation of church and state” not found anywhere in the U.S. Constitution or Bill of Rights… the current CIF champs shouldn’t be punished either.

Who should be punished? Nobody.

However, the gutless who are offended at every drop of the hat. The gutless too scared to live their own lives. The gutless who believe they can only attain balance in life through perpetual intrusion of governing bodies from CIF, to NCAA, to the United States government… I’m sorry to say you will never find equity, balance, peace, until you find it in yourself first.

Stay thirsty my friends…
