(Downey) – Cathderal blocked a field goal as time ran out to beat Downey 22-20 Friday night at Allen Layne Stadium to advance to the Southeast Division Semi Finals.

Downey got the ball back with just over six minutes left and drove all the way down to the Cathedral 12 yard line before being stopped on a fourth down. With two seconds left Viking kicker Noah Skobis booted it through the uprights as the clock hit zeroes. But the Phantom coaching staff was desperately calling for a timeout and it was granted and they lined up again. This time Terrance Simon busted through the line and blocked the attempt setting off a Cathedral celebration.

Jamire Calvin was the big play guy for the Phantoms returning a punt for 63 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter to give Cathedral a 9-7 lead. After Downey fumbled on its first series in the third quarter, Calvin raced past the Viking secondary on the first play from scrimmage and hauled in a 37-yard pass from Andrew Tovar to make it 16-7.
