(La Canada) – In football, linemen get very little glory. They line up, play after play, across from other lineman, and purposely hurl themselves in to each other in an effort to clear the way for “skill players”, whose names routinely dominate the sporting news.

There are, however, rare instances where a lineman’s Herculean effort makes him the story of the game. Such was the case Friday evening at St. Francis’ High School’s Friedman Field, where the Golden Knights beat the visiting Burroughs Indians: 21-7.

St. Francis Senior Sean Davitt plays both Defensive End and Tight end. Davitt stands 6 foot, 5 inches tall, and weighs 225 pounds. By any measure, he is a big man. In Friday evenings contest, Davitt made himself at home in the Burroughs backfield, recording six quarterback sacks, for a total loss of 43 yards. If this weren’t enough, he was also credited with a 16 yard touchdown reception from Miles Bryant.

St. Francis never trailed in the contest. In addition to the “Bryant to Davitt” score, the Golden Knights found the end zone on two additional occasions. Areg Nazarian scored on a 16 yard run, and Bryant connected with Jasher Foster for a 66 yard touchdown, which completed the St. Francis scoring for the evening.

Burroughs got on the scoreboard with 6:54 remaining in the fourth quarter of play, when Ash Hawkins scored on a one-yard run, making it 14-7. Burroughs attempted an on-side kick, which was recovered by St. Francis to effectively end the game.
