(La Mirada) – Sei-j Lauago scored twice and Elijah Hicks had huge block of a punt in the end zone as La Mirada rolled to a 36-14 win over Oceanside in the Division III-AA State Bowl Friday night.
Tristan Meyer hit Lauago for a 12-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter as the Matadores struck first to go up 7-0. After Oceanside fumbled the kick off La Mirada cashed in with a 39-yard Francisco Sanchez field goal for a 10-0 lead.
It was 17-0 when Hicks came up big defensively with blocked punt and there was still over two minutes left in the first quarter.
Oceanside got on the scoreboard with a minute left in the first on a 27-yard touchdown run.
The Matadores added another Sanchez field goal in the second quarter and picked up a safety just before the half ended.
La Mirada’s D continued the dominating performance in the third quarter as Shaun Swain picked off a pass and returned it to the one -yard line. From there Mario Hernandez bulled his way in to make it 29-7 and effectively ice the game.
Lauago tacked on one more touchdown late in the fourth quarter with a five-yard run for the 36-14 final.
The Matadores, who improved to 12-3, continue their dream season next Saturday when they host Campolindo in the 3AA State Final at a site to be determined.
