The TEN

(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)

1. The Cincinnati Bengals’ A.J. McCarron is the first Alabama player to win an NFL game as a starting quarterback since Jeff Rutledge did that for the New York Giants in 1987. McCarron, replacing the injured Andy Dalton, led the Bengals to a 24-14 victory over San Francisco Sunday.

2. Seattle’s Russell Wilson is the first quarterback in NFL history to pass for at least three touchdowns with no interceptions in five consecutive games.

3. The Kansas City Chiefs, who beat Baltimore Sunday for their eighth straight win, are the only team in league history to win eight straight immediately after a five-game losing steak.

4. Kobe Bryant scores 31 points to lead the Lakers to an 111-107 win over Denver for their fifth victory of the season.

5. The Dodgers announced Tuesday they will unveil a statue of Jackie Robinson at some point during the 2016 season.

6. Hisashi Iwakuma, whose deal with the Dodgers fell through last week, might receive as much as $47.5 million in a three year deal with the Seattle Mariners.

7. Glendora is off to a 5-5 start under new HC Marcus Bryan, after Tuesday night’s loss to Monrovia. Bryan took over for the legendary Mike Leduc who went to Damien.

8. “El Rancho is starting a “bring Medrano to ER” page. lol…Desperate! Rather pathetic.” – MVS Commenter “NewWorldOrder”.

9. On this day in 1972 the “Immaculate Reception” gives the Pittsburgh Steelers an improbable 13-7 win over the Oakland Raiders in the AFC Divisional Playoff game. With 30 seconds left and the Steelers down 7-6, Franco Harris caught a pass from Terry Bradshaw that was intended for Johnny “Frenchy” Fuqua. The pass bounced off the hands of Raiders’ safety Jack Tatum and was scooped up by Harris who ran for the game winning touchdown. There has been a controversy ever since because people contend that the ball  hit either Fuqua or the ground either of which would have resulted in an incomplete pass by the rules at the time. The officials ruled touchdown.

10. Happy Birthday to former Dodger and current Boston Red Sox star Hanley Ramirez who turns 33 today.
