4.) On this day in 1999 Ron Dayne ran for four touchdowns to lead Wisconsin to a 38-31 win over UCLA in the Rose Bowl. The Bruins led by Cade McNown racked up over 500 yards in a losing effort.

5.) Former Rosemead trenchman Geoff Rios turns 47.

7.) The Los Angeles Dodgers sign 27-year-old Kenta Maeda out of Japan. The starting right-hander is 97-67 with a 2.29 ERA in eight seasons in Japan. Last year, he posted a 15-8 record with a 2.09 ERA and 175 strikeouts in 206 1/3 innings. The deal comes a day after the Dodgers signed left-hander Scott Kazmir.

9.) Wisconsin has appeared in 14 consecutive bowl games. Florida State has appeared in 34.
