Mid Valley Divison Coach of the Year: Sierra Canyon’s Jon Ellinghouse.

Sierra Canyon's Jon Ellinghouse,

Sierra Canyon’s Jon Ellinghouse,

Domination is the only work that can be used to describe the 2015 version of the Trailblazers and an undefeated run to the Mid Valley Division Championship is why Jon Ellinghouse is our pick for Mid Valley Division Coach of the Year.

Going undefeated to complete a Mid Valley Division Championship is a feat within itself. When you tie in that the road traveled through regular season games against Taft, Nordhoff and perennial Mid Valley stronghold Paraclete that is even more impressive. Add in a lopsided playoff win over defending champion Pomona and a shut-out in the Mid Valley Championship game over another perennial contender in San Dimas and the resume grows.

Coach Ellinghouse’s team was the highest scoring team in the Mid Valley by 149 points and that’s excluding the 35 points the scored in the state regional game against San Dimas. On the other side of the ball the defense held teams to a total of 200 points in the 14 Mid Valley Division games. What’s impressive about those numbers is that in a lot of game the starters didn’t play much in the fourth quarter of games and running clocks were a norm.

The Sierra Canyon faithful should be proud of the job Coach Ellinghouse did in 2015!
