Tyler Nevens goes for 160 and two scores!

(Hacienda Heights) The Los Altos Conquerors and the Diamond Ranch Panthers opened Hacienda League play Friday and the Conquerors behind two Tyler Nevens touchdowns came out on top 29-13 on the campus of Los Altos High School.

Neither team found much traction early and it wasn’t until 2:35 left in the first quarter that Los Altos got on the board. Neven capped an 11 play 78-yard drive with a one yard plunge.

The Conquerors held on to their seven point lead until 5:39 left in the second period when Diamond Ranch knotted up the game at seven. After holding Los Altos on fourth at one at the one yard line, the Panthers only needed three plays to travel the 99 yards. Justin Tong found Trey Green along the sidelines who had a step on the Conqueror defender. Green hauled in the pass and raced the 99-yards to paydirt.

Los Altos answered the Diamond Ranch score with one of their own traveling 86-yards on seven plays capped by a three yard pass from Kody Olmos to Art Vargas.

The scored remaind 14-7 through the rest of the fist half and all of the third quarter.

The Conquerors pushed the lead to 21-7 with 6:38 left in the final frame. Olmos hooked up with Michael Salcedo on a 12 yard score. Olmos finished the night hittin on nine of 16 passes for 138-yards and two touchdowns.

Los Altos’ final score of the night came with 5:58 left two play. Anthony Lopez’s second interception of the night set the Conquerors up with first and goal at the Panther one. Nevens got the call and hammered his way through for the score. On the extra point the snap was bad and Andrew Manuele scrambled, broke couple of tackles fired toward the endzone. The ball ricocheted of a Diamond Ranch defender and into the waiting hands of Luis Areyzaga for the 29-7 lead.

Diamond Ranch got a late score to bring the final tally to 29-13. Tong led the Panthers on a four play 72 yard drive keyed by a 42 yard bomb to Alec Flanagan. Tong completed nine of 13 passes for 182 yards with two touchdowns and tow interceptions.

Los Altos will travel north next week to take on the Walnut Mustangs while Diamond Ranch will do battle with West Covina.
