(El Monte)- The Arroyo Knights met with little resistance from the host El Monte Lions Friday evening at El Monte High School, as the visitors posted a 41-13 victory.

The Lions, (4-3, 2-1) scored the first points of the contest, when senior linebacker
Sebastian Reyes returned an interception from Arroyo quarterback, Ernesto Camacho 46-yards for a touchdown with 9:32 remaining in the first quarter of play.

Camacho would more than make up for the aforementioned mistake. The sophomore signal caller completed 15 of 19 pass attempts, logging 246 yards, and two touchdowns completions. Arroyo also scored on the ground, as junior running back Steven Ocariz found the end zone for a 1-yard score. Arroyo’s kicking game also contributed, as junior kicker Jesse Ortiz converted field goals of 25 and 29-yards…as well as adding five point afters.

Arroyo’s defense played a solid game, holding El Monte to 152 yards from scrimmage. Additionally, senior defensive back Yezdan Marquez intercepted El Monte quarterback Andrew Ramos on two separate occasions, returning both for touchdowns.

El Monte’s final score came on a four yard run by senior running back Devin Romero. The PAT was added by senior Robert Gonzalez.

Next week finds both the Lions and Knights battling the Eagles. El Monte will travel to Gabrielino, while Arroyo will host Marshall. Both contests are scheduled for 10/14/16. Kickoff is at 7:00PM.
