6.) On this date in 1980 Sugar Ray Leonard beat Roberto Duran in the famous “No Mas” fight. In the closing seconds of the eighth round Duran walked away from Leonard and turned toward the referee and told him “No mas.” Leonard was declared the winner by TKO at 2:44 of the eighth round. Duran later claimed that he quit because of stomach cramps but his trainer Carlos Eleta said otherwise. “Duran didn’t quit because of stomach cramps. He quit because he was embarrassed.”
