(Glendora) – Petar Kutlesic scored a career high 34 points to lead Azusa Pacific to an 82-71 win over Western Oregon Friday night at Citrus College.
The Cougars jumped out to a 19-6 advantage midway through the first half and never lost the lead the rest of the way. Kutlesic had 16 points in the first half hitting 5 of 7 from the floor as Azusa Pacific led 34-27 at the break.
Kutlesic was 11 of 15 from the field overall and knocked down 10 of 14 from the free throw line.
Joey Schreiber added 17 points for APU including three three pointers. He buried 3 of 6 from beyond the arc and scored 12 points in the second half to hold off Western Oregon.
Corey Langerveld and Connor Peterson were also in double figures for the Cougars as they each scored 11.
Western Oregon got within four points late in the second half before APU pulled away. Bryan Berg led the way with 17 points and Faruq-Bey Ali had 11 for the visitors.
Azusa Pacific shot over 50 percent from the floor for the game and 69 percent from the charity stripe. Western Oregon shot 40 percent and just over 62 percent from the line. The Cougars won the war on rebounds 37-35.
The game was played at Citrus College due to graduation ceremonies at the Felix Event Center.
