The TEN

The TEN

(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)

1. According to Max Preps Rosemead and Arroyo don’t play each other this year in basketball.

2. Minnesota HC Tracy Claeys is fired Tuesday after meeting with school officials.

3. Former Cleveland Indians outfielder Rajai Davis agrees to one-year, $6 million deal with the Oakland A’s.

4. Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya will skip his senior season and declare for the NFL draft.

5. UCLA dropped from #2 to #4 in the AP poll after its loss to Oregon last week. USC is tied for 25th.

6. Jimmy Butler scored 52 points for Chicago Monday night in the Bulls 118-111 win over Charlotte.

7. “I understand the rule. Not a fan of it. Helmet to helmet isn’t safe. But what needs review is the “launch”. QB was defenseless because he had just released the ball. But I’d argue there was no intent to launch. Not enough to warrant an ejection. But that isn’t the rule as written. I understand protecting players, but have you ever seen a WR get ejected for peeling back and launching to block a pursuing defensive player? Me either. Has to go both ways.” – Arroyo HC Jim Singiser on Cameron Smith of USC getting ejected from the Rose Bowl for targeting and on the targeting rule in general.

8. Maranatha’s Terrance Lang, who is headed to USC on a football scholarship, is averaging 5.9 points and 3.9 rebounds per game for the basketball team.

9. On this day in 1976 the Dallas Cowboys rout the Los Angeles Rams 37-7 in the NFC Championship game.

10. Rams tight end Lance Kendricks needed 500 yards receiving this season to receive a $250,000 bonus. He finished with 499.

El Monte Union will sweep the Rios thing under the rug. You know and I know what happen and it will come out when he goes to court.

Hs FB fan you sound dumb. The ball was gone! It was definitely roughing at the least. If i were to give him a break it would be maybe his intent wasnt to hit him in the helmet. But he did launch and even cry baby Helton didnt complain.

Why are you bashing a guy like Coach Rios? Does anyone know exactly why he is out on leave-probably not. So why jump to conclusions about why or what happened without any actual facts? The guys has dedicated his entire life to Arroyo HS-not just football, but in MANY other areas as well. He has been a great coach, teacher and mentor to countless kids at Arroyo and beyond. If it comes to light that he did something serious to cause him being let go, we shall cross that bridge when we get to it. Until then, how about just letting the process run it’s course.

From MVS Staff: The comment about Coach Rios has been deleted. We were not aware of anything going on…

Good one buddy… but does that somehow make what I’m saying any less important? Or does El Monte wins go hand in hand with validity? Bottom line is something is fundamentally wrong at Arroyo

@soortsdad his feet were off the ground as he was jumping to challenge the just released pass. He did not “launch” himself into a helmet to helmet. If he had the PSU QB would have been knocked out. The rule is dumb. They go frame by frame and forget these Kids are moving at full speed and cannot stop on a dime. Face mask to face mask poses almost no threat for concussion as opposed to dropping the crown and earning a guy.

@mvs so what exactly is the coaching situation at San Gabriel? The coach says he is still there but the ad posted the job on the cif website.

Basement dwellers? You may be correct. But…

@Joe Fiji – While it would be good to have rugby in schools, we do have an area club. We have teams for all ages, including U16 and U18 (basically JV and Varsity) for boys. It’s the best off-season sport for football players; a number of our players have gone on to be selected to All-League and All-CIF teams, and some of our alumni are now playing college football or rugby. One of our players even had the opportunity to go to school and play rugby in New Zealand the summer after his sophomore year.

We’ve just started our pre-season training, and it’s not too late to join us.

#1 arroyo and Rosemead play this season it’s just not posted on the maxpreps but they do play. This basketball season could be very interesting with Gabrielino seemingly coming back down to our talent base. Mt View with a talented transfer leading them, Rosemead with The Ip brothers could be dangerous EMHS with a couple talented guards even Marshall could shock some teams the s season. Poor SEM looks like basement dwellers this year. Oh well!

We need Rugby played in sg high schools. Way better game. No helmets, not all the penalties,no trash talking, way more action and you can actually see the players.

How can you defend that hit when both of Smith’s feet left the ground and it was helmet to helmet. That was definitely a launch. When i first saw it i didnt think it was targeting until i saw the replay and seen both of his feet off the ground.

Nowadays the Rams are getting routed in the regular season, which makes a playoff wipeout look downright commendable.
