Bobby Cole’s numbers in 2016 were too big to ignore – 2,380 yards, 34 touchdowns, 8.3 yards per carry. And when the games were the biggest for Sierra Canyon, Cole came up huge.

He rushed for 196 yards in the second round playoff game against Redondo Union and followed that up with 220 yards in the semi final win over Charter Oak. In the CIF Final, a 36-35 win over Corona del Mar, Cole ran for 115 yards on just 16 carries including the run for the two point conversion that gave the Trailblazers the 36-35 victory.

Five times in 2016 Cole rushed for over 200 yards in a game including 225 yards in the State Final win over Serra. His best game was against rival Paraclete when he rushed for 267 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-7 win.

Sierra Canyon had plenty of stars. When you go undefeated and win the CIF and State championships that’s to be expected. But it was Cole whose star shined the brightest in 2016. He is our Player of the Year.

It’s awesome to know that the heavily-recruited team from Sierra Canyon, which has the best facilities, best-paid coaches and richest boosters was able to somehow attract a talent like Cole and then win big. Hoist your glasses to the over-dog.

The Runningbacks of the old Mid-Valley/San Gabriel Valley sure delivered this season. Putting awesome numbers carrying their respective teams. I had the privilege to watch young Mr Cole and let me tell you he is every bit as good as advertised… The list of backs is very deep this season. Milliner of LaSalle Nevens of Los Altos Tovar of South El Monte Sykes of San Dimas Thomas of Northview Chang of San Dimas the list goes on and on…. so many teams are passing more and more, but it was fun to watch these kids ball out and lead their teams. Great job keep them legs pumping boys!!!
