(Glendora) – Joey Schreiber set a school record for points in a game as he poured in 48 to lead Azusa Pacific to a 95-79 win over Hawaii Hilo Thursday night at Felix Event Center. His ten three pointers was also a school record. 

Schreiber was 10 0f 13 from the land of plenty and 15 of 19 from the field overall. Throw in 8 of 8 from the line and boom! 48.

The Cougars jumped out to a 22-5 lead behind threes by Schreiber, Connor Peterson and Will Ferris. The lead hit 20 at 29-9 on what else? – a three by Schreiber.

Hawaii got as close as 13 but the Cougars were still up 51-35 at the half. Schreiber had 24 at the half knocking down four of five from three point range. Brain Ishola had nine for Hawaii Hilo.

Schreiber continued with the hot hand in the second half burying three more from the downtown as Azusa Pacific opened up a 71-48 lead.

Hawaii went on a little 9-4 run to cut the Cougars adavntage to 75-57 with 7:31 left, but Schreiber hit the 40 point mark with 5:28 left on a three to put APU up 84-59 and the Cougs cruised the rest of the way.

Schreiber had over half the points for the Cougars and also pulled down nine rebounds. He was consistent as well scoring 24 in each half. Peterson and Petar Kutlesic finished in double figures with 14 and 10 respectively. The Cougars outrebounded the Vulcans 41-31.

For Hawaii Hilo Ishola led the way with 25, Eric Watree had 13 and Rylee Callagan scored 10. Frustrated down the stretch and finding no answer for the red hot Schreiber, Hawaii Hilo was hit with two technical fouls.

With the win Azusa Pacific improved to 11-13 and 6-8 in the PacWest while Hawaii Hilo fell to 6-13 and 4-9. Next up for the Cougars is a home game with Hawaii Pacific Monday night.
