Whittier Christian has designs on a title run in 2010, but what division will they run in?

Good Morning!

T-Minus-193 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

“We definitely have a lot of talent this year on both offense and defense,” said Whittier Christian defensive tackle Jeff Worthy. “We have a definite shot at winning the whole thing this year.”

Where Whittier Christian will win this ‘whole thing’ is now sorta up in the air.

Two years ago I was as anti-Olympic League as I am Summer & Winter Olympics. But I’ve changed. Good football, close to home, has a way of doing that to you.

Making some connections with Heralds program and excited about Maranatha’s entrance into the league, I’ve been looking forward to this fall like I have few others.

And now the powers that be are about to blow it all up. They want to grab up the whole scene baby…

Does this really have to happen?

Nothing is set, from what I’m told, but then again nothing seems clear.

Word on the Almont is it will be moved into the Mid-Valley Division and the Olympic League will be moved out…Where? I do not know.

I’ve spoken to two different athletic directors. One says they heard the Almont was coming, the other heard the Olympic was going in favor of the Academy League.

Second hand, I heard from a third athletic director in the Southeast Division that the Almont is not leaving the Southeast, but another five-team league will be joining.

Where is the Academy League? Who is in the Academy League?

St. Margaret’s, Sage Hill, Brethren Christian, Crean Lutheran South.

St. Margaret’s, last season’s champion, is located in San Juan Capistrano. Sage Hill is in Newport Beach. Brethren Christian is in Huntington Beach. Crean Lutheran South is in Irvine, and by the way…while going 0-8 in 2009 they surrendered 395-points and scored none…None as in zero! Thirty-two quarters of football…NADA!

Adding the Academy League to the Mid-Valley makes as much sense as someone running up a credit card and then deliberately quitting their job, but only after borrowing a grand from a loan shark… Not the best of all possible choices.

If there is a need to help the Academy out, then help out all of the private schools. Create upper and lower divisions for them apart, and faraway from the public schools.

Seeing the Almont in the Mid-Valley would be good, but not at the expense of having it come with the Academy League (We’ve heard talk both would come into the division).

And if the the Almont does go to the Mid-Valley where does that leave the Southeast? Already short because of the detonating of the San Antonio and Miramonte, where does the Southeast go for another league?

I know the people at CIF work hard, not questioning it, but the answer to these riddles lies in geography. Make decisions with geographic sensibilities and people will rally.

How marvelous was it to see San Dimas and Azusa play in a semifinal? How awesome was it to see San Dimas and Monrovia square off for the finals? Muir playing Charter Oak in the first round was amazing.

I’ll step out even further… San Dimas and Monrovia playing in the finals meant more to the area than say a San Dimas victory over Oak Christian in the playoffs a few years ago would have meant.

All because of the geography.

Sending local teams out to San Juan Capistrano robs our local communities of moments and memories which are ever so necessary in sponsoring a civic mindset.

As a freshman I saw the El Monte varsity beat Apple Valley in the playoffs…Uh, what?

I also saw them beat La Canada and it was something I never forgot.

Geography, its all in the geography.

Stay thirsty my friends…
