I believe there is also a younger Campbell brother with that Rosemead Frosh group. Also a solid player.

At least half of high school rosters are made up of young men whose mommies and girl friends think they look cute or huge in their uniform. As to actually wanting and working hard for playing time not so much. A kid that really wants to bump heads will get PT.

Rosemead DID get some of those Rebel kids. Keep an eye on Ivan Ostry & Marcos Samano.
From T. Peterson: Is that Jose Samano’s brother?

Numbers: Silly posts. USC had sanctions but still signed the pick of the litter in Socal. They were also highly ranked every pre-season. Their problem was terrible coaching hires and an ailing AD. Lack of numbers was never a USC problem. Please keep posting as Numbers so I can tell there is no reason to read your opinions.

Yup, starters are your best kids.

I’ve been on a var team 45 deep and only 17 guys really played. Cause you can’t just put in the “grass chewer” and expect the same result.

We spread those other guys out on our special teams so they got some PT

Cathedral now recruiting from Canada offering full scholarships. From the horses mouth. What will CIF do, my guess is nothing. CIF should not make another inquiry into a public school with all they allow to go on.

@Numbers: Your post applies to the band. Anyone can replace a flute player or a tom tom beater. Flag marchers though, you are correct there, they are tough to find back-ups for. And you are right about money. The bands know how to fund raise and how to get a cut of football gate money but the band spends far more money than football. But as for football no “determined starter” is going to lose much playing time to a kid chewing grass on the sideline.

I’ll have to send representatives from all NFL teams down to Valley Christian to learn how winning football flows from a 30-man roster. That will save each team millions by cutting over a dozen wasteful contracts. Then too, there was never a reason for USC to stop dominating college football during the sanctions…all they had to do was realize that “numbers mean squat.”

My local high school had 80 freshmen show up last year and 10 with football experience and a horrible coaching staff of 2. 80 kids going 2-8 proves it’s not about numbers alone. This season it’s around 50 but around 20 with experience and a deeper staff… the team will fair far better than 2-8 I can tell you that.

Having numbers means you’ve got fresh players to spell tired players, non-injured players to replace injured ones, somebody keeping you on your toes because they want to take your playing time from you, and -last but not least- more money coming in from players’ parents who are usually the source of all the fundraising proceeds. If that sounds like “squat”, most coaches will take it.

Numbers mean squat. Football players mean everything. Last year Valley Christian dominated D-9 with less than 30 guys and went to a state final if I recall. You can have 100 freshmen but if they have no real experience with hitting they will be done once the pads come on. Its like being a fit young man, watching MMA on TV and then want to try one round. Without experienced background you will be the meat thrown to the pit bull. The coach needs to find football players then pray there are a handful of other athletes that want to be football players that are willing to be coached up. Watching 7 on 7 this summer I saw so many kids playing grab ass and screwing around during their teams games that I flipped out. Let a wanna be marine do that during boot camp and see what happens..

News around town is that Los Altos had over 70 freshman show up for football summer camp. Also hearing that LA’s Upperclassmen have a bunch of skilled guys and have lit up the passing leagues this summer. After coming off a CIF championship loss with a loaded Senior class you would think it would be a rebuilding year for LA especially with a new coaching staff. Good things are brewing at LA and I would say this would be the sleeper in the Hacienda League.

Numbers are down everywhere for football unless you’re a major power year in and out. Kids are soft and don’t wanna play or aren’t loyal to their city school and got to the “good team”.

So 30-40 for a freshmen team is great for San gabriel Valley schools

Just wondering, is 27 freshmen consistent with the numbers most schools are getting at the freshmen level? Someone told me numbers are down…
