Schurr Takes Fourth at Mission Viejo

(Mission Viejo) – Schurr braved temperatures that hit triple digits and some quality opponents Saturday as they took fourth at the Mission Viejo Tournament.

The Spartans, who also advanced to the semi finals last week at the SGV Shootout, finished fourth in the 16-team tourney behind Mission Viejo, Upland and Norco. Schurr, led by quarterback Miguel Aguero, continues to impress this summer on the passing circuit.

Last time I checked oliva doesn’t run a TE set…. Elias ran similar things at Arcadia.

The kid is about 5’8 and threw for 28tds in a running offense. Trust me he will throw for a lot more this year and Arroyo knows what he can do. Tall or not he will be one of the best players in the SGV

Arroyo guy would be a huge upgrade if that happened!! Finally have someone who can throw the ball down the middle of the field in a real game and not just 7 on 7 because he will be able to see over the line

you got a solid QB but Camacho would help at safety. Either way, he is not moving.

La Serna didn’t look too great when I saw them. They have two receivers who had nice deep catches but we all know they are a running team.

I somewhat agree, here is the kicker…..if the DC is what you say he is, he will be exposed next season. When a coach is being carried by talent its hard to see the bad in a coach, but when its time for a coach to “coach” a kid up he is then tested. Prime example>>>if your QB goes down the #2 QB should be ready to jump in and follow the game plan without skipping a beat. Right? So this year the DC is surrounded by talent and cant really be judged by his coaching ability. As a position coach you judge a coach by his weakest link….if that player is ready to fill in without skipping a beat then that coach has been doing his job. We will see….good luck this season.

I’ll lay off Schurr for a second because I just heard some troubling news. speaking about another DC slash head coach that’s nicer gonna be accused of being a genius. Frank Gallardo fired his strength and conditioning coach Frank Samano who was probably the key guy behind South El Monte success. 11-2 semi finals run and can the dude that got you there. He’s also another Defensive Coordinator who can’t get out of his own way. Frank you have a dominant ground game defense should be easy just don’t give up the big play and you’ll win a title. Just like Schurr go back to your loss you gave up 4 Touchdowns of over 40 yards cmon man. you failed! No Samano is gonna be worse. Montebello never beats itself because there’s always guys like Gallardo and Sanchez who will beat themselves for us. Samano come to Montebello we’d love to have you bro.

Cmon man you don’t know where the critics about the defense is coming from??? Really dude. Schurr should be pitching shut outs in the Almont other than against us. (MHS) I’ll say it again go watch the Arroyo film, Can you find one adjustment he made to stop the onslaught? Hes your weak link and everyone knows it

Cupcake is spot on. The Schurr DC held them back last year. If he doesn’t drastically improve, Ramos should definitely look for a replacement.

The point of doing one of these throw events is to improve your team’s passing and pass defense, not primarily to win the event. That’s why more area teams should be challenging themselves at second-tier tourneys such as MV. Whatever else can be said about the Spartans’ day in the OC, they are doing what’s needed to make themselves winners in the fall.

Don’t know where all of you are getting your “facts”. Defense last season hobbled through the end of the season to the playoffs. Injuries were what hurt Schurr last season. 3 of the best defensive threats in the Almont haven’t taken a snap this season due to rehab. Give the DC a break. The defensive is as simple as it can’t get. Remember it’s D12 not D1. Stay tuned……..

Schurr defense is the biggest weakness and it doesn’t have to be. But you got a younger coach who just has to show all he can do rather than find something that works and sticking with it as a more experienced guy would do. Schurr is very athletic and should be a dangerous defense that remains to be seen

  19. July 9, 2017 - 10:03 pm | Permalink

Relax Schurr… all the top teams were at Edison. I’ll say it again. Your defensive Coordinator keeps you guys down. No adjustments, at halftime he gets worse lol. He’s so busy trying to show off how many coverages he has that he forgets why you run certain coverages vs certain formations. Or how he wastes his best athlete instead of freeing him up to what great athletes do. Schurr will score for sure. But defense is what wins and your defense is Swiss cheese

Before we give Schurr the Division 12 Championship rings, how did their lineman do? Games are won and lost in the trenches. This was a 7 on 7 and Lineman Tournament.
