(Costa Mesa) – Chargers receiver Keenan Allen went down in week 1 last year with an ACL injury and missed the entire 2016 season, but he’s expecting to rebound with a big year in 2017.

Allen had a good first day at camp on Sunday but admitted he may have been a little rusty. On the second day on Monday he shook off all of the rust and looked the old Keenan Allen. He caught several passes over the middle and showed the quickness that was displayed earlier in his career.

The Chargers drafted Clemson receiver Mike Williams in the first round but he may be out for the year with a herniated disc in his back. That would leave the bulk of the catches going to Allen. If Allen is healthy the Chargers know he is capable of carrying the load. In Allen’s rookie year of 2013 he caught 71 passes for 1,o46 yards and eight touchdowns and had 77 catches for 783 yards and four scores in 2014.

2017 could be the best yet if early returns are any indication.
