Mats

Mustangs

Good Evening!

T-Minus-178 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

I roll Villanova…

Rat Dog John Gillette seems to agree: “It was a difficult season for the Bruins, but not totally unexpected given the NBA departures. Thus my heart is not into March Madness this year, but with that being said, here’s my fearless Final Four picks: East = West Virgnina (Kentucky is showing more vulnerability). South = Villanova (not totally sold on Duke). Midwest = Kansas (arguably the toughest region, but the ‘hawks have proven to me over the past couple of years that they are for real). West = Syracuse (I personally don’t see a real upset here although Kansas State wouldn’t be a shock – – – – and neither would BYU be a shock to me!). There they are! Have at it!”

Kyle Orton isn’t the answer in Denver…Brady Quinn is… Charlie Weiss’s Brady Quinn… “Farewell and adieu to sweet Spanish ladies…farewell and adieu to you sweet maids of Spain…”

I wonder what pseudo-New York Jets GM Zeke Prado thinks about Ladainian Tomlinson signing a two-year deal with the team?

Schurr wide receivers coach Mike Vasquez informed me Spartan quarterback Aaron Cantu excelled at the recent Scout/Badger 7on7 Tourney in Vegas. Scout.Com lead writer Brandon Huffman said Cantu had an excellent weekend and did well going through his progressions.

In an email to Vasquez, Huffman said: “Really was impressed with Aaron’s (Cantu) arm.  He can play at the next level, no doubt in me.”

I got a text last night saying St. Francis was getting a new football HC… The source was certain, and said the Star-Trib didn’t have it yet… And the reason they didn’t and no one else did was because it was St. Francis High School in northern California…

Amazing what a quick peek can produce…Lenn Sakata played in the Majors for 11 seasons… If I knew that, I had forgotten it.

Speaking of the Orioles, Peterson patterned his slow pitch softball career after second baseman Rich Dauer.

San Gabriel HC Jude Oliva confirmed the Mats schedule this fall: Zero Week: Muir. Week One: South Pasadena. Week Two: Burbank. Week Three; Contreras. Week Four: Rosemead. Week Five: Bye.

Other than Contreras, I love the schedule. The Rosemead match will be the first between the schools since the season opener in 1981.

The last time Muir and SG met was also in 1981, but that was at the end of the Mats brief five year run in the Pacific League (From 1972-76 San Gabriel was in the Mission Valley. From 1982 thru 1991 the Foothill).

The Mustangs won 39-0. In 1980 the Mustangs won 58-6, 1979- 28-7, 1978- 18-0, and 1977- 27-15.

In tracing things back through 1960, Muir has not lost to San Gabriel.

Stay thirsty my friends…
