Arellanes Update: Los Altos Tradition big Factor

Jim Arellanes looking to restore the Los Altos tradition

Tradition, tradition! Tradition!

When word leaked Friday that Northview Head Coach Jim Arellanes had accepted the same position at Los Altos, it was widely speculated, even by yours truly, that a stable teaching position was the overriding factor. But that wasn’t the case at all.

“No, my teaching position was secure at Northview,” Arellanes said Monday.

It was the tradition that Los Altos carries.

Arellanes indeed could have stayed on as the Vikings coach, teaching position and all, as he had for the previous four years but when opportunity knocks…

“This was the toughest professional decision I’ve ever had to make- leaving Northview and those kids,” Arellanes said. “They worked their tail off for me and I really appreciate all that they did.”

The Los Altos job was simply too appealing to pass up.

“At the same time I look forward to going to Los Altos!  The pride, the tradition, the community- it’s an exciting opportunity for me and my family.”

Arellanes declared last week that he was not interested in the Los Altos job before the story got out late Friday that he indeed had indeed accepted the position.

“Sorry I had to be tight lipped about the whole process. I really just wanted to let the Northview boys hear it from me. They deserved that,” Arellanes added.

Arellanes will begin to assemble his staff immediately with spring drills just a couple of months away.
