Galaxy Stunned in Stoppage Time

(Carson) – Real Salt Lake’s Kyle Beckerman scored in stoppage time with under a minute left to stun the Galaxy in a 1-1 tie Saturday night before 20, 234 at StubHub Center.

Galaxy goalkeeper Clement Diop made a big save on Joao Plata but Beckerman got the rebound and rammed it by Diop for the tie.

Real Salt Lake played most of the contest a man down as Marcelo Silva was issued a red card in the 15th minute for a foul on Giovani dos Santos.

The Galaxy, despite several opportunities was only able to find the net once however as Bradford Jamieson IV scored in the 41st minute.

LA almost struck early but Romain Alessandrini’s shot hit the cross bar in the fifth minute. A minute later Dave Romney did score but the goal was nullified due to an offside penalty.

In the 11th minute Nick Rimando stopped Alessandrini on a break away. Four minutes later Silva picked up his red card.

Emmanuel Boateng got free and had a run on the right flank but was denied by Rimando in the 27th minute.

Gyasi Zardes took a hit in the 33rd minute and had to leave the contest. He was replaced Rafael Garcia.

Plata had an opportunity for Real Salt Lake to get even in the 37th but his shot at Diop was wide left.

The Galaxy then broke the tie in the 41st when Jamieson took a perfect pass from Jermaine Jones and beat Rimando on the right side to put LA up 1-0.

Three  minutes of additional time were dded in the first half as the Galaxy took the one goal lead into the break.

The Galaxy out shot Salt Lake 10-6 in the first half.

Alessandrini had a chance to ice it in the 70th minute but he was stopped by Rimando on a save.

Jamieson left the game in the 76th minute and was replace by Ariel Lassiter.

Diop came up big in the in the 85th minute making a diving save off of a shot by Brooks Lennon to preserve the one goal advantage.

Giovani dos Santos also nearly gave LA a two goal lead in the 88th minute after taking another nice dish from Alessandrini but was again denied by Rimando.

Four additional minutes were added and Real Salt Lake took advantage. It appeared that Diop would be the hero when he made a remarkable stop on a bullet by Plata only to have Beckerman fire one into the net and silence the crowd.

LA moved to 7-17-8 with the tie with just two games remaining while Real Salt Lake is now 12-14-6.
