Lancers Hold All the Cards, 42-7

(Whittier) The La Serna Lancers, armed with a potent ground attack, had little trouble disposing of the visiting Whittier Cardinals Friday evening, posting a 42-7 victory at California High School.

La Serna (4-4, 2-1 in Del Rio league play) ran for 382 yards, scoring five rushing touchdowns. Senior Running Back Fonzie Ibanez did the majority of the ground damage, rushing for 182 yards on 19 carries. Ibanez scored four touchdowns…on runs of 1, 1, 5, and 55 yards, respectively. Running Back Jared Chavez scored the fifth touchdown on a six yard sprint to the end zone. The Lancers also found scoring opportunities through the air. Quarterback Andrew Henriquez connected with Tight End Abraham Shalash for a 12 yard touchdown. Henriquez threw another scoring pass…connecting with Cade McCaffer on a 2-point PAT attempt.

Whittier (3-5, 1-2) got on the scoreboard when Quarterback Nathan Delgado connected with Angel Ruiz for a 30 yard touchdown. The extra point opportunity was converted by Joshua Carranza.

La Serna’s next game is scheduled for 10/27/17. The Lancers will host the El Rancho Dons. Whittier will visit the Pioneer Titans on Thursday, 10/26/17. Kickoff for both games is scheduled for 7:00PM.
