The TEN: 11/3/2017

(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)

1.) Houston Texans rookie quarterback, Deshaun Watson diagnosed with ACL injury.

2.) “If Arroyo can beat Culver City in the playoffs or should I say championship… then they are legti!! I’ve seen Culver City play and they are head and shoulders above any school in this division…..Size,Speed, athletes, Scheme…only thing that would get in their way would be a helluva a game plan from Jim and his staff….”—MVS commenter “Anonymous”

3.) Indianapolis Colts place quarterback Andrew Luck on Injured Reserve.

4.) Arcadia defeats Crescenta Valley, 22-16, Thursday (last) night.

5.) Texas Rangers outfielder/DH, Willie Calhoun—the key piece in the Los Angeles Dodgers trade to acquire Yu Darvish—batted .265 with a home run and four runs batted in 23 at-bats. His OBP was .324….Just something to keep in mind as MLB transitions into 2018-mode.

6.) Burbank versus Burroughs—tonight—7:PM

7.) Los Angeles Angels re-sign outfielder, Justin Upton to a 5-year/$106-million contract, running through 2022 with a no-trade clause. Since 2012, Upton has played for the Diamondbacks, Braves, Padres, Tigers and now will remain with the Angels.

8.) “BG is in a rebuilding century not year.”—MVS commenter “Fact”

9.) Former heavyweight boxing champion, Larry Holmes turns 68 today.

10.) “If Yu Darvish wants to hear the biggest roar in a coliseum since Maximus circled the boys and threw down on Joaquin’s Home Team, he should plunk Gurriel first time thru and then do the eye thing right back at him.”—Dennis Miller

Congratulations to Arcadia for beating Crescenta Valley for the first time since 2011! We look forward to success in the playoffs! Hopefully we can run deep far and I hope we can be successful again next year!

The LA Times today said Yu Darvish will be a free agent.

He is a risk given his prior Tommy John UCL surgery. Many have had success and many have had less success or no results in recovery. Recovery can take more than 2 years.

Darvish has been at times brilliant in 2017, and at times horrible, as can be expected in recovery.

Given the deep pocket at Chavez Ravine, signing Darvish to a contract is likely to pay off more likely than not, and will give the dodgers a righty lefty 1-2 with Clayton Kershaw.

But you know disappointed dodger fans will blame the WS loss on Darvish due to his two bad starts. The same people still fawn over Bellinger who set a all time record for strike outs in a WS and was the #4 batter despite stranding runner on base after standing runner on base. If Bellinger has the supposed skills to overcome that horrible performance, why wouldnt Darvish that has a long history of ACE level pitching, have the ability to overcome his horrible WS?

Montebello forfeit last week’s win vs. San Gabriel. I believe this guarantees both Bell Gardens and Montebello are in the playoffs no matter who wins tonight.
