Glendale HC Al Eberhart is looking to ignite the Nitros in 2010

Good Evening!

T-Minus-162 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Most troubling Facebook status of the day: “Driving down the freeway singing to Taylor Swift…”

— Mike Minter (M-Town football assistant)

Late Note: Last Friday Crescenta Valley named Paul Schilling its new head football coach to replace the retired Tony Zarrillo. Schilling, the Falcons defensive coordinator in 2009, served five years in his first stint at the school as the JV football coach during the 1990s. He says he plans on keeping much of the staff from a year ago.

“We have full confidence in Paul,” CV Principal Linda Evans told the Crescenta Valley Weekly. “He’s an experienced football coach who knows the heritage of CV football, is well aware of the present and is prepared to move our football program into the future as well.”

We took some heat for not getting Chris Rix on the air last night even though he was part of the Aaron Cantu-Carlos Arredondo entourage.

Rix was fine I gave him my autograph.

Someone watching the show called me at 11:30 last night and said things might not be as cut and dry regarding a teaching position being open at Temple City.

My caller, with strong ties to the school district, indicated the first to be given opportunity to fill an opening would be a teacher already pink slipped…Not necessarily an outsider looking for a football coaching gig.

Uh oh…

Catching up with one time Crescenta Valley quarterback Karsen Reedy:

“I’m going to school to get into the music business as a recording engineer, and playing some shows here and there with my band “Dazed Fresh”. I also help coach (Al) Eberhart at Glendale during the summer as a quarterback coach.”

Eberhart can use Reedy’s help as he replaces graduating Nitro quarterback Moises Chavez. Whoever becomes the triggerman will have a pair of talented receivers in Dillon Fuller and Linden Anderson.

Last Add Schurr: While we had Cantu and Arredondo on the show, it wasn’t Rix we failed to get on the air, but Spartan wide receiver/defensive back Chris Chiaromontes who averaged 24-yards per catch last season and scored five touchdowns… With Arredondo on his way, as of now, to Cerritos College look for Chiaromontes to become Cantu’s feature guy in 2010.

While I can’t say I’m sorry to see the Dodgers release Jason Repko, never understood the interest in him anyway… I was disappointed with the release of south paw Eric Stults, who Bad News Barker and I saw go nine innings and shutout the Giants last May.

Last Add Rix: Alright I didn’t give him my autograph…but he did say he was interested about coming in during “Football Rush Week”…

Had a nice article sent to me by Bonita Alum written by Aram of the Trib about Baldwin Park having 11-on-11 toss arounds on Friday nights this May. I don’t know how all the coaches feel about it, but I think it’s great for those who write about football and those who can’t get enough.

Of course I still want my February/March JV football league… Someday…

Last Add Cantu: Did you know Aaron Cantu’s grandfather, on his mother’s side, is Roosevelt coaching legend Al Chavez? While dad Johnny played his prep football at Sierra Vista in the late 1980’s.

Sources are telling me you’re going to have to wait another two weeks, at least, before there’s anything new on the San Marino coaching situation.

Really Last Add Rix: The Florida State alum has added Arcadia quarterback Myles Carr to the list of passers he’s working with.

Despite the whispers floating around, those in the know say former San Gabriel HC Keith Jones is not really interested in coaching this season.

Stay thirsty my friends…
