Chou Out at Monrovia

Jerry Chou is dismissed as HC at Monrovia after two years.

By Tim Peterson

(Monrovia) – Jerry Chou was fired as the head football coach at Monrovia Friday sources confirmed.

Chou was let go after just two years at the helm. The Wildcats went 9-12 under Chou and lost in the first round of the playoffs in 2016 and ’17. St. Paul beat Monrovia in the first round last year as the Cats finished 5-5. This past season Monrovia won the Rio Hondo League but went 4-7 overall and fell in the first round of the CIF Division 7 playoffs to Yorba Linda 44-21.

The Wildcats will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.

White’s 6 figure salary is not a coaching stipend. It is mostly his salary for teaching/+ benefits

Transparent is interesting. Are coaching stipends public record as well as booster and alumni groups payments to coaches?

6 figures is absolutely correct. Guarantee he makes that at BP. You act like that is a big number or something. No way he leaves for Monrovia.

    LOL,

Six figures is correct. You could look him up, and any public employee for that matter, on Transparent California website.

Monrovia would only be so lucky to get someone like Anthony White! What is the motivation for him to take the job? There is absolutely zero reason: 1) He makes well over six figures teaching. 2) He lives in the La Mirada area. 3) He has better things to do than spending over two hours on the freeway everyday.

Coach Arroyo/ Coach Carlin? Who Dat??? Anthony White and crew I don’t think is a good fit. Monrovia needs a young energetic coaching staff. Id like to see Coach Lehigh or someone with his track record come in. Hope Bonita picks Bogan and he applies to Monrovia.

Having had a son in this program over the past several years, my heart and soul breaks for these young men and this program. An effective team is about leadership, non of which exist is this program. I have watched these players and they have heart and soul and they want to win and make Monrovia proud. Unfortunately the program and leadership make this difficult. As a program you need to keep In mind that without a great leader this program will never be better than Rio Hondo League champs. There is talent coming through the ranks and I believe they can be CIF Champs again.

Burroughs will always be solid. Muir is a more interesting question. It was just a few years ago that they absolutely owned that league. They’ve certainly slipped, but they seem to be recovering. The question is whether this (moving up and down through the middle of the pack) is just a rough patch or the new normal. Generally, I agree with your statement that Monrovia would generally compete for third in the league, but no better.

You do realize that each year players graduate and new kids come in! Monrovia had some mediocre years but they are far and in between. Pasadena Glendale Hoover have been in peril the last decade and Muir Arcadia and Monrovia is a toss up. Burroughs seems to have gone way down and is also now without a coach too. Outside of CV and Burbank I see Monrovia right there

Not a bottom feeder?? Monrovia got crushed by a historically weak program Whittier High School 27-6 last year. They might handle Little Armenia but not Pasadena. No they are bottom feeders anyplace other than the gerry-mandered Rio Hondo League.

I wouldn’t say a bottom feeder that’s going too far. But they would be fighting for 3rd place on a consistent basis and wouldn’t sniff any League titles. Until that AD is gone all the sports programs will continue their downward spiral.

You would have a very hard time convincing me that the Pacific League’s actual bottom feeders (Glendale, Hoover, Pasadena) could manage anything like a respectable result against Monrovia. No way Monrovia would win the Pacific, but they could routinely be competitive among the other five Pacific league schools.

Monrovia HS you have a chance to get a very good coach and rule the Rio Hondo. Don’t blow it. White is not the best option.

A complete house cleaning needs to be done at Monrovia. That includes the sideline folks that really run the show. How can players concentrate when you have a bunch of different coaches yelling in your helmet hole about what to do and other ones arguing with the HC DC and OC. Until that confusion on Monrovia’s sidelines is ended once and for all Monrovia which is blessed with great players will not play up to their ability. In any other good league like the Palomares,Hacienda or Pacific Monrovia would be a bottom feeder.
