(Mt. View Park) – Alfonso Guzman hit the fence three times, leading to three doubles. He also had three runs and two runs batted in to lead the Phillies to a 12-2 win over the Marlins Friday night at El Monte Eastern.

The Marlins got on the board first when Joey Duarte scored on an RBI by Kevin Flores. Andrew Mancillas of the Phillies started off with a double followed by Guzman and Ceasar Guzman with a pair of doubles to take an early 2-1 lead. After a walk to Ben Griffith, Jonathan Reyes and Joshua Chavez came up with a pair of run scoring singles.

After another Mancillas double Alfonso Guzman followed with his second run scoring double and Ceasar Guzman brought in his cousin with a two bagger, to make the score 7-1.

Marlins got on the board again with a run scoring single by Juan Ciriaco, that brought in Fabian Nunez. The Philles got that run back when Danny Guzman knocked in Chavez.

The Phillies broke the game open in the fourth inning with doubles by Guzman (Alfonso) and Guzman (Ceasar) and a D. Guzman single that made the score 12-2 and end the game due to the mercy rule.

Four Phillies pitchers gave up only three hits and struck out eight led by C. Guzman who struck out the only four batters he faced. The pitching was led by catcher Martin Barajas Jr. who played a solid defense behind the plate.

“I could have done better. I could hit it out every time,” said A. Guzman after the game. “I hope we have a good season and stay undefeated.”

Phillies manager Martin Barajas Sr. said “We will get better. We’re going to work on getting better at bats and base running, but we’ll be ready for the Tournament of Champions.”

The Phillies stayed undefeated and improved to 6-0 while the Marlins fell to 1-5.
