SGV Shootout Will Try to Beat the Heat

By Tim Peterson

(El Monte) – There will be a couple of changes for the SGV Shootout at Arroyo in an attempt to combat the 100 degree temperatures that are expected Saturday.

The Tournament which usually starts at 9:00 has been moved up to 8:00 and the time of the games will be shortened.

“We have an earlier start and shorter games. It’s supposed to top out at 100 by 3:00 p.m. but we will be done by 2:15,” said Arroyo head coach Jim Singiser.

There are 24 teams divided into six pools that will be participating in the Shootout.

I could not make it to the Arroyo tournament, it was too hot for me. I guess that Los Altos blew out Workman. I don’t know why Jim did or do I. I think he wanted to embarrass Workman. How can they compete. They only had a few weeks to prepare.
Any updates on who won the tournament?
From T. Peterson: Los Altos and Workman actually tied but LA bounced back to make it to the semi finals. Arcadia beat Diamond Ranch in the Final.

Would anyone on these boards be willing to endorse a passing tournament that’s being held in the high desert? Today, Los Angeles was hotter than Death Valley, but here we go with a passing tournament despite the facts. Unless Singiser is bringing mist machines, this thing needs to be postponed.
From T. Peterson: Postponing would have been a big mistake. It was a great tournament. Well ran, great competition, and the weather really wasn’t a factor at all. The earlier start and shortened game times worked well.

I haven’t seen it so hot in El Monte in forever. As I was driving through the neighborhood today, I saw a dog chasing a cat… and they were both walking.
