1. The Dodgers acquired second baseman Brian Dozier from the Minnesota Twins for infielder Logan Forsythe and two minor leaguers.

2. In a separate deal the Dodgers traded former Temple City American/Temple City Ram righthander Corey Copping to the Toronto Blue Jays for right -handed reliever John Axford. Copping was 4-0 with an ERA of 2.52 in 35 appearances in two levels of the Dodgers farm system this season. He was most recently at AAA Oklahoma City.

3. Johnny Manziel will make his first start in the CFL for the Montreal Alouettes Friday night against the Hamilton Tiger Cats.

4. The New Orleans Saints sign veteran wide receivers Michael Floyd and Brandon Tate.

5. Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald is still not in training camp over a contract dispute.

6. LeBron James teams up with the Akron, Ohio Public School District to create I Promise School, which will open its doors for 240 at risk students this week.

7. The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired starting pitcher Chris Archer from the Tampa Bay Rays. The Pirates are 56-52, third in the NL Central, six games behind the Chicago Cubs.

8. On this day in 1993 14-time All-Star Reggie Jackson is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

9. Former University of Miami/NFL running back Edgerrin James turns 40 today.

    The Akron school was built with money that would have gone to the government in taxes anyway, so it’s smart to get the positive publicity. Tiger Woods built a similar thing in Anaheim, and I’m sure it helped to rehab his image after the sexual misconduct episode. As for changing the world, forget it….we’ve got all the world-savers we can handle and then some.
