@ Area Spectator: Maybe we can agree to disagree on your first point. But, I think you’re probably right about the Almont League being pretty wide-open this year.
Alhambra has played Temple City, L.A. Wilson, and South Pasadena for many years, including times when those schools had pretty good teams, or at least competitive ones. We added Rowland to our schedule in 2015, and we took on South El Monte again last season, when the Eagles happened to have a really good team.
I believe that high school football is largely a cyclical, up-and-down thing. That’s particularly true in the lower divisions, where many of the schools are not “football factories.”
We will work hard to take advantage of the opportunities that are currently being presented to us. I believe that’s the best approach to take every year.

I don’t think it’s bulletin board material when it’s the truth. I just honestly don’t see how playing Temple City, South El Monte, and Rowland followed by South Pasadena and Wilson prepares you for league?? Dont look at records either because these other schools have played no one as well. Only team that played someone decent in your pre league schedule is South and they got blasted by Covina. I think a better schedule might have done wonders for you guys this year with league being so up in the air… BG plays San Marino soon, Schurr played Arroyo, Montebello played Crescenta Valley and has La Serna next week. Not saying all these teams will win those “step up” games but at least they give themselves a chance to learn about team

BohiFan: Many thought the Smudgepot was going the way of the Wheel, Los Altos vs Wilson. A rivalry in name only. Since the Podley-Medrano era the Bohi fan base had dropped and using Citrus might be embarrassing. No one could have foreseen two undefeated times in this years Smudge. Not just undefeated but rolling through good teams big time. This Smudgepot is pickem and I got the Bearcats 48-31.

The Almont is wide open. BG has not played any one, lost against El Rancho. Montebello plays El Rancho this week which is huge for Montebello. Schurr looks bad but they have had issues with everything. Alhambra has played against no one as well. San Gabriel and Mark Keppel well they are jus there waiting…. There will be two or three first place teams in the Almont this year.

Classless as ever! Trying to criticize another player who has move on to great things despite the horrible Downey coaching. Maybe if you coaches spend less time on the blogs and more time coaching than you would be more like Wong instead of WRONG and you wouldn’t depend on so much luck when you do win. Don’t hold your breath on winning another championship, pigs won’t fly anytime soon.

I have no doubt that the Spartans will turn it around. They have a lot of sophomores starting on Friday nights which is great for the future. I still see them 2nd or 3rd in league. Defense is horrible but I think the team will be fine. Coaches will get them right!

@ mytwocents. I guess the Downey coaches where Wong. Don’t you love it when they are Wong. Sometimes I sit here and wait for something Wong to happen so I can criticize them.

Schurr has played a tough schedule. League is a whole other story. All teams in the Almont have a chance. If Schurr had all their transfers they would have gone 10-0 this year

Anonymous bring up a very valid point… Schurr is not fielding a JV team, they are just missing some transfers. This is the Varsity team that would have been there without the Transfers. If you’ve been to a game, you can clearly see that Schurr has talent. And they are HUGE up front. #13 is the best athlete on the field every week, for both teams, and #42 is capable of taking away half the field for opposing offenses run game and pass lane, dude is long, rangy, and athletic. Schurr just needs to figure it out, find some chemistry and sound philosophy. They have the pieces to be way better than their showing

Why don’t they just forefiet there season? Every game they lose someone comes on here and degrates the kids that are playing and are seniors and puts them down by saying “we literally have a jv team playing”. Then don’t play on Friday nights and make excuses why every team blows you out by 50 or more points. You sound lame! Maybe you should jump out of that “gap” defense and stop putting your linebackers in front of the safeties and switch things up instead of staying in your base defense that allows teams to score so many points on you-take responsibility for your actions! “…come on man!”

Question why is the smudgepot being held at the district field?
From T. Peterson: APU will be playing at Citrus that same night and they take precedence. So the Smudgepot was moved to CDF.

#7 Defense was Schurr’s downfall last year, this year it’ll be the same story. Their DC has no clue. Ramos had no business bring him back. The sooner they find a replacement, the better.

Schurr people not as easy when you have to play with what you got, and not help from the area. A little payback from all these schools. This Friday I see another 40 points scored on them
