Schmid Steps Down as Galaxy Coach

By Tim Peterson

(Carson) – Sigi Schmid stepped down as the coach of the Galaxy Monday with just six games left in the regular season. Assistant Dominic Kinnear has been named interim head coach.

Schmid, who took over for the Galaxy last July after Curt Onalfo was fired, had a record of 12-18-12 overall. The Galaxy is currently in eighth place in the Western Conference, three points behind the Seattle Sounders for the final playoff spot.

The Galaxy will face Toronto on the road Saturday before returning home to face Seattle on Sunday September 23.
