Monrovia Youth Baseball League to hold Celebration

The time has come for those of us who played, coached or participated in the Monrovia Youth Baseball League (M.Y.B.L.) to honor praise and celebrate the men and women that volunteered their time to mold boys and girls in to men and women. This celebration will be held Saturday October 13th 2018 at Monrovia Recreation Park from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This will we be a bring your own picnic style festival (bring what you want to eat and drink for you and your family). Anyone that participated in MYBL from 1972-1982. Any level Mustang, Bronco, Pony and Colt is welcome to attend this celebration.

Yesterday Thomas Jackson, Leland Adams, Anthony Craft, Chris Bourne and myself shared unbelievable stories, from foul balls, to the 50-50 raffle for the parents, to the snack bar which featured chili fries, taquitos with liquid guacamole, deep fried burritos and grape licorice. We reminisced about many wonderful other stories. So please take a moment to reflect and share your stories with us here on Facebook or in person on the 13th.

We all know and understand life changes and that people change, especially today but Monrovia was a city of true diversity and our interaction showed that it was real and had no boundaries. Black, White, Latino and Asian families playing, working and having fun together with no racial conflict. We fellowshipped together at all levels from having a friend spend the night or coach who lived above Foothill travel below the tracks to pick up a player who didn’t have a ride to practice. So please take a moment to share your memory of MYBL.

Yesterday we talked about free babysitting because you could drop your child off on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the ball field and you didn’t have to worry, because if your mom or dad couldn’t pick you up a ride home was never in question. You had one.

There were no mercy rules then as teams were beaten badly.  Kendrick Bourne posted an article where one team beat another 46-2

Please repeat your teams and coaches:

Mustang, Emblem Club Coach (Louis Martinez) Pete and Rueben Congo won championships. I remember (Tyborg Gondocs, Josh Chittister)
Bronco, Elks Club Coach (James Crawford John Shirk) Players- Eric Johnson Steve Mitchell, Thomas Jackson, Jay Arioti Dike Jones
Realtors Coaches (Hal Baber, Sam Baber, Leonard Player) Won a championship. Players – Hillary Herring, Andy Bourne, Wesley and Leslie Otis, Andre Holmes Kevin Faust Mitch Towles Randy Baber Greg Young Arvester Runnels and many more. Please pass this on.

Congratulations. Monrovia is lucky to still have Little League. I also remember the days of District 18 tournys. Many youth leagues have died out in the SGV unfortunately. I believe if the leagues were still alive, high school baseball would be much more competitive, and the kids might even play high school football together.

Please remember my Dad Paul Conroy at the event. All 4 Conroy boys played baseball at Rec. Park. Miss those days and all the people that played during those years.
