Is it true the brackets block the sun?
Could you guys put up all the divisions? It would be nice to see where everyone is being ranked.
La Serna and Apple Valley i think are the favorites and D-Ranch a “sleeper”.
A D-Ranch and La Serna finals would be nice. I think St.Paul is a quarterfinal team just because some of these teams here.
I stated quite some time ago that this was the division (5) that interested me the most since they have a few of the schools in my immediate area that would be ranked. Having coached a few of the current coaches at Warren and being friends with a few parents at La Serna, I did make the statement that this would be a “dog fight” (and that TP needed to stay away from the Kool-Aid).
Don’t let Coach Lara and his Warren Bears’ current division be the ultimate tell all story and the caliber team they have. They have some real athletes on their team. They’ve got some legit D1 guys being offered. Their undersized QB (Venegas) has an offer to play for ARMY. I feel like he’ll get others to follow suit. I heard he also has the interest of Cal Poly SLO, Fresno St., SJSU, a few IVY League schools and a couple others. Warren’s “athlete” (Colenzo) has an offer from UTAH, and the interest of many other Pac12 schools including Oregon, CAL, UCLA and a few other D1 schools. Warren also has a number of D1 caliber players but they may not have the academic eligibility for a D1 offer.
Lara is pulling in athletes from surrounding areas. Bottom line, Lara is slowly creating his clone of LB Poly at his new home. They won’t be at the Division 7 for long if he continues to bring in athletes from outside his immediate Downey area.
As for La Serna, they should be okay through league but they can’t afford to take any team in the DRL lightly. Their issue will simply be, “Can they survive the physical rigor” of post season play with their undersized, local athletes?
I disagree. I believe there should be 2-3 more divisions. At the end of the day these kids work hard and are trying to win a title. Division 12 and 13 have so many teams in it some schools will never get in because they are in tough leagues. At the end of the day CIF is still making money.
You make a good point, which leads us to the conclusion that we should only have–at most–eight divisions. CIF won’t do this, however, because they feel their financial health requires getting everyone and their uncles into the postseason.
Realistically, with so many divisions and so many teams, can anyone plausibly tell the difference between Division 5 and Division 7, or between the #5 and #15 team in a division? There’s just so many unknowable variables involved to take division placement or ranking without many many grains of salt.
Warren is a division SEVEN team, and is ranked #10 in that group. La Serna, which just lost to Warren, is in division 5, where they enjoy the #6 spot. Makes no sense at all. Another proof that these rankings are no better than throwing darts in the dark is that untested Alhambra sits at number one in division 13, while El Monte has to settle for #3 in that group. If these polls are decided by coaches, there must be a lot of them who don’t keep up on the reality of things.
