Northview Girls Fall in State Final

By MVS Staff

(Sacramento) – The Northview girls fell to Oakland Tech 55-27 Saturday in the CIF State Division IV Championship game in Sacramento.

Oakland Tech, dominant from the outset, jumped out to an 18-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Despite the loss it was a memorable season for the Vikings as they won the CIF SS Division 4AA championship with a 47-43 win over Oak Park on February 23. They also beat Oak Park again 44-37 last Tuesday to advance to the State Final.

The Vikings won the Valle Vista League title losing only to Covina in overtime and finished the season 31-6 overall.

Northview had never been to the CIF Southern Section quarterfinals before this season.

Despite the lopsided score, we have to acknowledge the locals for their wildly successful season. As an aside, I’m not in favor of playing these important title games in huge, virtually empty NBA arenas. A squad’s shooting HAS to be affected by all that open space when they’re not used to that situation.
