Vikings Rout Don Lugo, 41-6

By MVS Staff

(Covina) – James Jimenez threw for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead Northview to a 41-6 rout of Don Lugo Thursday night at Covina District Field.

Jimenez hit Deshon Thompson twice for scores including a 56-yarder in the first half. Deshon’s brother Damion also hauled in a 47-yard TD strike down the sidelines. Jimenez took it in himself on a one-yard keeper on the opening drive  to put the Vikes up 7-0.

An interception led to an Adonis Torres 10-yard touchdown run to make it 28-0.

Ironically Northview also led Don Lugo 35-0 at halftime last year.

With a running clock the entire second half Damion Thompson picked off a pass and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown to make it 41-0.

Don Lugo finally got on the board late.

The Vikings improved to 4-0 on the year with the victory while the Conquistadores fell to 0-4.

Contracts are almost always for two years, but that does not mean you scheduled the game two years ago. From the looks of things, all of these games are the 2nd of a two year contract so the games were scheduled early in 2018. Don Lugo looks like a renewal, probably early 2019, so this may be the 1st year of another 2 year contract. Next years schedule may look completely different if teams decide not to renew. If you want to see what teams were thinking when scheduling look at the records of ER, SM, LA and WC in 2017. That’s some of the information NV would have used when deciding to take the games. Obviously, which weeks you have open, division of the opponent and how many seniors graduated from the other rosters, as well as your own, often goes into the decision making.

They schedule every 2 years. That is a fact. San Marino, Don Lugo, and Los Altos were all coming off some nice playoff runs. Fact. But like I said in my earlier post, hopefully the next go around preseason games will be better. Hopefully the teams signed up sustain more consistent success to make everyone happy.

I think Northiew made a mistake when they scheduled El Rancho. They were very sure the Dons were also going to be a cupcake win. Next year better schedule Keppel in their place.

NO SCHOOL SCHEDULES 3 YEARS IN ADVANCE. Unless it is the Smudgepot type rivalry that’s it. Heck a team does not know who will be their coach in 3 years or what league they will be in. Quit cryin Northy

@@FF Stop being a hater! When Northview made the schedule 3 years ago it looked like a step up. San Marino 1 yr removed from a CIF tittle, Don Lugo fresh off a CIF Championship appearance, West Covina was a solid team from the Havienda League, Los Altos was coming off a run of 2 championship game appearances in 3 years. The only questionable opponent was El Rancho. Littered with Transfers??? The only starter that is a transfer is 1 lineman. Jimenez has been there for 4 years, The Thompson’s have been there from the beginning so stop assuming and know what you are talking about. One of their best players had actually transferred out to Muir.

When they scheduled these games San Marino, Don Lugo, and Los Altos were good. Los Altos is good. Northview can’t control the rise and fall of football programs. Schedules are made a couple season In advance. They are not season by season. I remember when this go around of preseason games came around, a lot of people on here specifically were giving Northview props. People were actually predicting Northview to struggle. I’m sure Northviews schedule will be tougher the next go round, I sure hope so at least.

Not a weak schedule. This Don Lugo team was the best team they’ve faced considering DL barely lost to SH. NV plays Los Altos next week which is one of the more complete teams in the area. That’s gonna be a hell of battle.

I agree. All their games will be blowouts from here out only because the competition is so weak. Beating up little guys when you have a program littered with transfers cannot be that much fun for the players on either side. You might get 1 meaningful quarter of football per game. No sense watching Northview beat up Baldwin Park 6 times.

I told everyone at the start of the season that Northview should blow out everybody (except their first game)!! Other than injuries this team will go undefeated!! The problem is that there schedule is weak, and it won’t prepare them for the playoffs!!!
