Zaldivar Leads LA to Victory

By George Hernandez

[Covina] Rene Zaldivar had two touchdowns to lead Los Altos to a 21-7 victory over South Hills at Covina District Field Friday night.

Both teams exchanged punts in the first half with the game going into halftime scoreless.

Zaldivar put the first points on the board for the Conquerors when he took a sweep down the sideline for a 46-yard touchdown run, making it 7-0.

Two possessions later Los Altos other running back Orellius Visaya broke down the middle for a 51-yard run, he set himself up for a two yard dive making it 14-0 with under a minute left in the third quarter.

South Hills drove down the field on a 42-yard pass from Khalil Ali to Steven Munoz that set the Huskies up in the red zone but a Zedekiah Rodriguez interception on the five yard line stopped all the momentum.

On a third and five play Zaldivar broke another big run-this time a 80-yarder to paydirt putting Los Altos up 21-0 early in the fourth quarter.

During the next Huskies drive quarterback Ali was ejected from the game and they turned the ball over on downs.

Justin Gayton went in at quarterback for the Conquerors and his first pass was intercepted for a pick six by Dimitrius Perez cutting into the lead 21-7.

Los Altos recovered the onside kick and was able to get a pair of first downs to run out the clock.

Zaldivar finished with 186-yards in 13-carries, Visaya had 12-carries for 117-yards.

South Hills was led by Ali who went 15 of 30 for 214-yards and a interception, his favorite target was Jordan Sanchez who had six catches for 83-yards. Munoz finished with 87-total yards from scrimmage.

Los Altos finished 8-2 while last years CIF champion South Hills finished 5-5. Both will wait for playoff pairings this Sunday.

Your guess would be wrong. Let me know how the game against St Margaret goes. I’m sure you will be the most annoying fan in the stands screaming “what’s going on St Margarets cheating”. I hope the boys at LA enjoy their season and make great memories. They have worked their butts off in league. It’s arrogant parents like you that give LA fans a bad name.

Anonymous, let me guess, you’re one of those crybaby parents who whines and complains about your kid’s playing time because you think he’s NFL material. You’re a joke, Dude. Go back to the hole you crawled out of. People like you make me sick.

Congratulations to the Conquerors on a solid season. Zaldivar is a special player. No wonder he’s going D1 in college. Great job, Oreo and the offensive line, too. Let’s make a playoff run! 1-0 next week! Good luck to the Conqs.
