Moors Finish Perfect Regular Season Run

(Alhambra) – The Alhambra Moors defeated an outmanned Mark Keppel team, 59-0, on Senior Night at Moor Field on Friday night.

The victory made the Moors the undisputed champions of the Almont League and improved their overall record to 10-0 on the season.

Alhambra, which ended up 5-0 in league play, finished one game ahead of the second-place Montebello Oilers, who were 35-0 victors over San Gabriel.

The Moors scored on their first five possessions to take a 34-0 lead and quickly turn the game into a rout.

Alhambra quarterback Noah Rodriguez hit on four of six passes for 97 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. The Moors kept the ball entirely on the ground after the intermission.

AHS running back Issac Hernandez gained 111 yards in only two carries, scoring on a 95-yard run in the second quarter. Jose Ortiz added 84 yards in 10 carries for the Moors.

Free safety Tyler Gonzalez picked off a pass by Keppel quarterback Esteban Pacheco-Villegas and returned it 72 yards for a touchdown to extend Alhambra’s lead to 48-0 shortly before halftime.

Pacheco-Villegas completed eight of 21 passes for 105 yards and threw three interceptions.

The Moors gained 310 yards from scrimmage, while the Aztecs managed just 146 yards.

Alhambra’s victory was its 11th straight, dating back to the 2018 season finale against Keppel.

That winning streak is the second-longest in school history; the Moors’ 1946 team went 12-0 and won a CIF title under legendary coach George Hobbs.
