1. The Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox are in serious trade talks involving All-Star right fielder Mookie Betts according to sources.

2. The Carolina Panthers and veteran tight end Greg Olsen have mutually agreed to part ways although Olsen still wants to play in the NFL.

3. Hall of Famer Ed Reed is rejoining his alma mater the Miami Hurricanes as chief of staff of the football program.

4. The Kansas City Chiefs are favored by 1.5 points over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. The over/under is 54.5.

5. USC is 5-2 in the Pac 12 Conference (tied for second place) and 16-4 overall. UCLA is 3-4 (10th place) and 10-10 overall. Oregon leads the Pac 12 with a record of 6-2.

6. Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins is considering sitting out the 2020 season.

7. South El Monte is 10-0 in the Mission Valley League and 18-7 overall. Arroyo is 0-9 and 0-18.

8. South Pasadena’s Billy Reed III leads the Rio Hondo League in scoring averaging 24.1 points per game.

9. On this day in 1988 the Washington Redskins routed the Denver Broncos 42-10 in Super Bowl XXII at Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. Quarterback Doug Williams was named MVP.

    Sad to see the Arroyo basketball team so unprepared as they were MVL champs last year, but in the other end. South El Monte is putting up amazing shows and blowing every team out so far. Playoffs should be interesting. Let’s hope they are up to the tasks. Also, big shout out to SEM alumni Joseph “Jojo” Diaz jr. for winning an amazing fight yesterday to be crowned the IBF super featherweight champion!
