(Lake Elsinore) – Bonita scored a run in the first inning but was shut out the rest of the way and fell to Ocean View 2-1 Saturday in the CIF Division 3 Finals at the Diamond in Lake Elsinore.
Robert Mier singled to lead off the bottom of the first inning, advanced to second on a wild pick off throw and moved to third on a ground ball by Matt Gelalich. Evan Highley then hit a drive that would have been a home run at most high school fields but in the expansive lot in Lake Elsinore it was caught in deep center field. Mier scored for a 1-0 advantage.
The lead was short lived however as Ocean View tied it with one in the second and grabbed the lead with another in the third. In the decisive third, Colton Johnson tripled and scored on a ground ball by Blake Walker. That was all that was needed.
Ocean View pitchers Walker and Freddy Sepulveda held the Bearcats to four hits in the contest. Walker went the first four and Sepulveda threw the final three. Bonita had a couple of opportunities but couldn’t cash in.
Adam McCreery pitched five innings for Bonita and Josh Yepez came on to throw the sixth.
The play was a little sloppy at times with Ocean View committing four errors and Bonita two.
Bonita had won nine straight games coming in and finished the season with a Miramonte League title and an overall record of 24-5-1.
