(Montebello) – Andre Maldonado threw four touchdowns and ran for another leading Montebello in their victory over crosstown rival Schurr Thursday night at Schurr.

The Spartans got the ball first but on the third play of the game quarterback Jesse Preciado was picked off by the Oilers Nathan Rodriguez.

Montebello took advantage when Maldonado scored on a one-yard dive into the end zone giving the Oilers an early 7-0 lead.

Schurr had more success on their second drive, pounding the ball down field then Preciado found Ray Whitney who came up with an outstanding catch in the corner of the end zone to put the game at 7-6 after a two point conversion was missed.

Maldonado again went to work for Montebello taking them down field and hitting Adrian Valle from 6-yards out. Oilers added on a field goal as time expired at the half making it 17-6.

David Padilla got in on the action for Montebello when Maldonado found him for a 30-yard pass to paydirt.

Schurr finally got on the board again when Preciado took it in himself from eight yards out cutting the lead to 24-12.

Maldonado found Valle again in the third quarter this time from 34-yards out.

Schurr answered when Presciado hit tight end Saul Buenrostro for the score but the Spartans missed their third two point conversion attempt.

Montebello finished their scoring when Maldonado threw his fourth touchdown of the game when he hit favorite target Omar Carranza making it 38-18.

Maldonado finished 23 of 31 for 269-yards through the air for four scores and another 103 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

Carranza had 11-receptions for 138-yards and score. Padilla had six catches for 66-yards and a score.

Linebacker Juan Olazaba was all over the field for the Oilers making big stops all game.

Preciado had 97-yards passing two touchdowns and an interception and he added 44-yards rushing and a score.

Montebello finishes their season 2-0 while Schurr (0-1) will end next week when they head to Bell Gardens.

Oilers dominated from the opening play. Schurr has found a way to become irrelevant in Montebello. It looks like they will never ever get that trophy back. Also, it’s a pretty good idea to check your scoreboard a few hours before the game to see if it works. It was annoying listening to that 99 cent scoreboard telling everyone that recess is over. Get it together SHS. OILERS own you….

I think these football games should be treated like T-ball games. No keeping score, everybody gets a trophy and then great snacks after the game.
