Pasadena Throttles Muir

By Rich Whittington

(Pasadena) – The Pasadena Bulldogs dominated the John Muir Mustangs Friday evening, 33-6, claiming the 2020 Turkey Tussle championship, in front of a few friends and family members at Pasadena’s historic Rose Bowl.

Many of the traditional elements of this game were missing from the Covid version of this annual contest. There was no victory bell, the crowd was limited to only two family members per player, and limits were placed on the number of spectators that were allowed on the sidelines. What was present, however, were two scrappy, confident, and enthusiastic teams…ready to do battle and take their rightful place in the annals of Turkey Tussle history.

Pasadena ruled from the very beginning, scoring the games first points when Jamir Allen returned the games opening kickoff for an 85-yard touchdown. The Bulldogs never looked back. QB Dante Coronel completed 14 of 25 pass attempts, for 169 yards, including three TD’s.

Coronel connected with three different receivers…Mekhi Fox (a 25-yard pass), Cameron Mitchell (a 30 yard strike), and Gamaliel Kevin Serrato (a 22 yard catch and run). Also finding the end zone was RB Daylon Beasley, who scored on a 19-yard TD run.

The balance of the Bulldogs scoring came courtesy of K Kirobi Pinto, whoconverted 3 PAT attempts.

The Bulldogs also played very tough on the defensive side of the ball, registering four turnovers during the course of the game. Pasadena logged three interceptions of the John Muir QB trio…one each by FS Kani Tollette, FS Daylon Beasley, and CB Romel Veal.

The Bulldogs also recovered a fumble, courtesy of DL Ruben Rivera. Muir was never able to get things rolling. Dropped passes, penalties, and turnovers prohibited the Mustangs from establishing any sort of rhythm. John Muir’s only score
came on the first drive of the games 3 rd quarter, when QB Marquis Springer connected with WR Braylin Brooks for a 6-yard TD.

This concludes the rescheduled 2020 season for both of these teams.
