(El Monte) – Gabrielino jumped out to an 18-3 first quarter lead, pumped it up to 41-5 at halftime and cruised to a 65-19 rout of host Arroyo Friday night in Mission Valley League action.
The Eagles, who remained undefeated with the victory, led 13-0 before the Knights could even manage a point. Bear Razo (cool name) scored the first six points of the game for Gabrielino and had 14 in the first quarter including a three pointer. Razo had 16 overall to lead the Eagles in the scoring column.
Henry Huynh warmed up in the second quarter scoring 9 in the period as Gabrielino blew it wide open. Brandon Chai and Alec Smith each had six in the second.
The Eagles were rolling 57-13 after the third quarter to put the running clock in action. Huynh joined Razo in double figures with 11 points and Chai finished with 9. Mike Okaguro added 8.
For Arroyo Sam Mariz led the team with 6 points. The Knights hit just one three in the contest as Paul Valenzuela made one in the third quarter for his only points of the contest.
Gabrielno improved to a perfect 9-0 on the season while Arroyo is at the other end of the spectrum at 0-9

Comment from a grateful parent: I would like to acknowledge you and your staff for giving props to our Gabrielino team! This pandemic year has been a tough one for everyone but more so on our students and our student athletes who waited patiently to play again! This was even more important for our seniors who are at the end of their journey in high school (Bear Razo-32, Preston Gilmore-11, Henry Huynh-4, Dylan Goodrich-10, Noah Ogata-34) to be able to end their year with the recognition given to them here!
