(Glendora) – Glendora played ground and pound and eventually downed Ayala 21-7 Friday night at Citrus College.

The Tartans, leading 14-7 pieced together a 17-play, 70 yard drive in the fourth quarter mainly behind the running of Braydon Brus. The march took up nearly all of the fourth quarter and culminated with a seven-yard touchdown run by Jake Denerson with 1:55 remaining on the clock.

Twice during the drive Glendora went for it on fourth down and twice Brus delivered with a first down run out of the Wildcat. Brus was the guy the Tartans looked to all night to get things going on the ground. He rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. Glendora had 161 yards on the ground overall.

The Tartans got on the board first on their opening possession. Glendora drove 67 yards on 10 plays with Brus running the final 13 yards for a score.

Ayala responded with a quick 80-yard drive of its own. A 53-yard run by Marquis Monroe led to a one-yard keeper by Bryan Wilson with 3:46 left in the first quarter.

Neither team scored in the second quarter. The Tartans missed a 35-yard field goal while the Bulldogs were stopped on fourth down at the Glendora 22 yard line.

Brus retuned an Ayala punt 36 yards down to the Ayala 14 yard line early in the third quarter. Two plays later Brus got his second score of the night on a seven-yard run.

The score stayed that that way until Brus and Glendora marched down the field in the fourth to ice it.

Ayala punted three times in the second half and on the last play of the game Wilson was intercepted in the end zone by Trey Byrd. Ayala never was able to muster much offense against the Glendora defense. Wilson completed six passes for 121 yards and the Bulldogs were held to less than 100 yards rushing.

Denerson threw for 107 yards for Glendora with his main target JoJo Najarro catching six passes for 53 yards.

Glendora handed Ayala its first loss of the year as the Bulldogs fell to 6-1 while the Tartans remained perfect at 7-0.
